What it is
Autism (autism spectrum condition) is a lifelong difference in how a child communicates, interacts and experiences the world. ADHD affects attention, activity levels and impulse control. Both are neurodevelopmental — they are part of how a child's brain develops, and every child has their own strengths, challenges and personality.
A proper diagnosis by a developmental paediatrician or child psychiatrist, and support from speech, occupational and behavioural therapists and the child's school, are the foundation of good care. Families often also ask for help with the child's everyday wellbeing.
Common signs
- Autism: differences in speech, eye contact, play and social interaction
- Autism: strong routines, repetitive movements, intense interests
- Autism: sensitivity to sound, light, touch, taste or textures
- ADHD: difficulty sustaining attention, restlessness, acting before thinking
- Both: difficulties with sleep, eating, digestion and emotional regulation are common
Everyday concerns families often bring
- Poor or broken sleep
- Very selective eating, constipation or stomach discomfort
- Frequent colds, coughs or skin problems
- Anxiety, irritability or meltdowns when overwhelmed
- Sensory overload in noisy or crowded places
- Tiredness and stress for parents and siblings
Everyday care that helps
- Keep a steady daily routine; prepare the child for changes with pictures or simple words
- A calm, dim, screen-free hour before bed helps sleep
- Offer new foods slowly alongside familiar ones; keep water and fibre up for constipation
- Create a quiet corner at home for when things feel too much
- Celebrate strengths and small steps
- Look after yourselves too — parent support groups help many families
When to see a doctor promptly
- Any loss of speech or skills the child already had
- Seizures, fainting or unusual staring spells
- Self-injury or sudden aggressive behaviour
- Not eating or drinking enough, or weight loss
- Very poor sleep affecting the whole family
How we approach it at Gursagar
We see the whole child — sleep, appetite, digestion, illnesses, temperament, fears and sensitivities — and the family's day-to-day experience. Consultations are unhurried, and we adapt the visit to the child's comfort.
Dr. Shah prescribes classical homoeopathic medicine chosen for the child individually, as part of the child's overall care. We work alongside your child's paediatrician, developmental specialist and therapists — never in place of them. Please continue all therapies and medicines your child's team has advised.
Common questions
Will homoeopathy replace my child's therapies?
No. Speech, occupational and behavioural therapies and school support remain essential. Our care is in addition to them.
Does my child need a formal diagnosis first?
We strongly encourage assessment by a developmental paediatrician. You are welcome to consult us at any stage.
Can we consult online?
Yes. Many families find an online first consultation easier for the child; we may suggest an in-person visit later.
Would you like Dr. Shah to look at your case?
Consult in person at Rajpura or Chandigarh, or online from anywhere in India and abroad.
This article is for general health education and is not a substitute for a medical consultation. Every person is assessed individually, and results differ from person to person. Please do not stop or change any medicine prescribed to you without speaking to your doctor. Dr. Randeep Singh Shah, D.H.M.S., AFHom (UK) · Reg. No. 2423-A.
